Dave did his early sailing in dinghies and as crew for his dad on trips from the Chesapeake to Maine in the family C&C 42, Freyja. He later extensively cruised coastal Downeast, Maine and Nova Scotia in his first cruising boat Skål, a Shannon 28. He did his formal offshore training with the crew at 59° North sailing on trips to both Newfoundland and Spitzbergen, Norway to almost 78 degrees north latitude. Though a cruising sailor at heart, he was privileged to crew a Newport to Bermuda Race. A former Air Force pilot, Dave is excited to expand his ocean sailing envelope with this trip to the Caribbean (and beyond) as skipper aboard Rejoice.
Patty started her formal sailing with a group called “Womanship”sailing the southeastern coast of Ireland on a Beneteau 35, a sail that took them from Kinsale to a circuit around the famed Fastnet Rock. She joined Dave on “duffle bag” cruises early in their sailing lives aboard their J-22 Talon along the coast of Maine saying, “it’s so small, we can only take along one duffle bag between us.” She crewed on more extended excursions aboard their beloved and just slightly larger Shannon 28, Skål. Her ocean sailing training was also with 59°North on our Artic adventure from Tromsø, Norway to the world’s most northernmost settlement, Longyearbyen, Norway.
